Care Guide
Unlike gemstones, pearls are organic. The nano structures of pearl surface is what gives the pearls their iridescence. They are a special crystalline form of calcium carbonate. This nacre is tough, and treating it with care will make your pearls last for generations.
Avoid the following substances
Keep your pearls far away from the following:
- Acidic substances — e.g. vinegar. Due to their chemical structure, pearls will react easily with common acidic substances.
- Corrosive substances — e.g. ammonia, chlorine. Again, this is fairly obvious. These will permanently damage the pearl surface.
- Other chemical substances — especially solvents, if not sure, best not to risk it.
Activities
Please take off your pearls when doing the following activities:
- Swimming — pearls can handle water, but not the pool chlorine other substances potentially in the water
- Showering — pearls can handle water, but not the rapid changes in heat or the chemicals in your shampoo or body wash
- Exercise — you risk scratching them accidentally
Cleaning
- You can clean your pearls with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
- For a deeper clean, you can use with soapy water, make sure to rinse after. Do not use any harsh chemicals.
- We recommend cleaning after wearing.
Wearing
We recommend that you put on your pearls as the finishing touch to your outfit. This minimises the pearls exposure to any cosmetics, makeup or fragance. Taking them off first is also a good idea.
Storing
- Avoid storing your pearls in an excessively dry or hot environment — they can crack.
- Pearls enjoy moisture, but not the the extent that mold and mildrew starts forming.
- Store them in the own pouch to prevent accidental scratches.
Enjoy them
- Don't forget why you bought them, wear them!
